Day and age. What went wrong?

The Killers have just released their 4th album entitled; Day and Age! It was released on november 24th. However from what Ive heard, the album was supposed to drop on the 25th, But oh well all that matters is that Im now able, to finally get my grubby little mitts on this music "gem". When the album finally came in, I probably resembled an impatient tiger, just pacing back and forth waiting for something to occour. Or in my case, waiting for the album to finish downloading!
The album contains a total of 14 songs including the "Human" music video and the digital booklet, which is packed with marvelous photos!
Ever since their album Sawdust was released,I was mesmorized by what The Killers had to offer. When they first did the remake of the Joy Division song "shadowplay" I was hooked. I was in love with all the wonky pop synths along with the twisted and highly creative guitaring! Not only did I enjoy the music, of course I also loved the members.

Now since the boys have left Sams Town, the rugged and glittery south-western style is no more. Looks like they have remembered how to opperate a razor and have gone back to the sequins and smoky eye liner!
I dont know how I found myself liking The Killers. How did this happen? To some of you that know me, the music that I listen to is focussed on the edgy side.
So, whats my take on their new album?
Well, after having a hot and popular debut album like Hot Fuss, how can you try to revive all the popularity with a second album? Obviously the "fans" are looking forward to the new album from the new bunch of fresh faced kids on the block. However, Sams Town didnt get the best of reviews like Hot Fuss. Although Sams Town was quite successful. Unlike all the glitzy glamour that came along with Hot Fuss, Sams Town was completely different! The sound was more calm but still with the whiny synths in the background. The album, Sawdust followed. Sawdust packed a punch with screeching synth, loud vocals, and coarse, upbeat drumming. Not to meantion that they also were able to create a song wth a major music icon Lou Reed. Lou sang on one of their songs, Tranquilize. And even covering the 70s punk band Joy Divisions song Shadowplay, which turned out to be my absolute favorite Killers song!!
In my oppinion, Sawdust is a great album done by The Killers. If somebody, had recieved a bad taste in their mouths from The Killers, I would have them sample the Sawdust album. And make sure that they listen to Shadowplay. And hopefully that would revive their thought. Even though Hot Fuss Is their most reconized album. Maybe it was all because it was their very first album? But I didnt quite get into all the "fuss" of it. Their hit, Mr. Brightside is a great song. But its not my favorite. And Somebody told me, is my guilty pleasure. I love all that synth in it!!
But what all went wrong with Day and Age?
The signature synth still follows the band, but in more of a twangy 80s form/style. The Killers have always been catagorized in the alternative genre, but with this new album I would have to rethink that. I would consider the album to be in the electronic/pop genre! Since Sawdust carried more of a "darker" sound to it, Day And Age has more of a happy, shallow, jive to it. Not technically dance/clubbing music but more of a softer feminine take to it. Like "date music". (Which is something that Im not too big on.) These guys have alot of potential, They just dont know how to channel it the right way. Or how Ive been going on and on about the Shadowplay sound. If I were to give this album a rating from 1-5 stars, Id give it a 3! The album just didnt give out a lot of...personality!
The Killers have been in the music field for quite some time now, and to be cranking out 4 albums within 6 years is pretty good, I'll give em' that. I will continue to support these guys, even though the album was kinda a dissapointment. Im hoping that the next album (or if there is another one?) will provide lots of rythmic personalitly!
Well, theres my 2 cents on that. If any of you have heard any music reviews on the Day and Age album, Please send them in!! Mucho Gracias!
